バンコク屋台 カオサン/ Bangok Yatai Kaosan

This has become one of my go-to places when in Shinjuku.  Thai food and it’s right in the station.  It’s always busy with a wait of one or two people.  The menu is extensive as at many Thai places, and as far as I can tell the place is run by Thai people as most are. There is a window into the kitchen so it feels like you’re right there, and the round tables are often shared with several other people, so it’s pretty cozy and lively.  There isn’t any one dish that stands out, but everything I’ve tried has been good for decent prices.  I don’t travel just to eat there, but always consider it if I’m there.

Coci

It felt fancy being in a space like this, perched above a small city waterway, a thin pathway with romantic lighting leading to the door.  We only got to see the first floor bar, where we found ourselves coughing a couple times on smoke/steam coming from behind what we thought was probably the bar, but the food and atmosphere made up for it.  Inside was a warm, somewhat dim lighting, and an extensive menu of high quality Asian fusion food.  I had a steak dish, something I normally don’t eat (I’m not sure how “Thai” this place really is), but it was delicious, and I would go more for the overall experience than the particular kind of food.  Reservations are probably necessary on weekends, which might be hard to do in English, but if you need a nice place to go it’s a good choice.
